The car we’d arranged from the travel agency in Hoi An had cost us 280,000, paid in advance. He was 10 minutes early, but we were ready. There was little traffic, and it’s a good road to Danang, so it was a fast trip. 40 minutes.
The waiting room has a small shop / cafe.
The train arrived 15 minutes late, at about 1.30 and then they opened the doors to the platform.
We had the bottom berths this time – 13 & 14.
The train departed at 1.48.
The scenery was lush, and varied; forest, paddy fields, scrub, villages.
At 4.05PM we arrived at Quang Bhai.
It became dark around 6pm after a nice sunset.
At 6.47 there was another stop. Snack trolleys, drink trolleys, and cooked food trolleys came past.
The sheets had not been changed on the bunks, and were grubby. I found some fresh ones stored above the urn, and changed mine. After eating we turned the lights off – at about 8. The train stopped a couple of times only during the night, the last being at Na Trang about midnight.
Then the train arrived in Saigon late, at 5.20 am.
There is a kind of taxi queue. We waited for it to calm down, then agreed a fare. The taxi controller gave us a card with the number plate on it, and the driver took us to the hotel and accepted the fare with no quibbles.
